Hard Drive Problem!!!!

Ok....I have a junky old dell that I wanter to add another Hard drive.


I opened it up and install the new drive and pluged it in w/ the middle connector. Now I turn It on and says no drives found. So I unplug it and put everything back the way it was and still get the error. I don't know what to do. It wont even reconize the master HD that was already in it.

The BOIS plug thing on the old HD for master was not on the chart in the instructions so i left the new one the way it came out of the box beacause nothing matched for the master. But if I plug everything back shouldn't it work like before?????

Depends on the hard disk you are installing. Could be too large for the bios to relate to.
You problem though, is probably your master/slave settings. You have to set the jumpers on the drives for master and slave. Using cable select may work as well, but actually setting the drives to master and slave will be a little more bullet proof as far as the bios identitfying the drives. Otherwise, as you've noticed, they will be conflicting, and won't be able to relate to each other or the computer. Since it can't recognize the old setup, you might have a cable outta whack or something. Try unhhooking it and hooking it up again, making sure all the connectors are fully seated and the cable stripe is oriented toward pins 1 and 2. You should also double check your cdrom cables if you've messed with them since one of those hooked up wrong can cause all IDE devices to not bee seen.
