Hard-Drive failure?

I am looking at either a DAW or Harddisc unit. My friend at work made the comment of the internal harddrive in a stand-alone unit will crash in time. Knowing that a DAW HD could easily do the same, I have the capability to extract the PC HD and replace it at will, considering I will back-up all data. Any comments or related experiences would be appreciated.

I've had two different internal VS880 drives fail (I have the original issue model, with a 540 MGB drive).I'm currently using an ORB drive that has a 2.2 gig drive....they are under $200 with a cartridge.I've used zip, which is ok,but small storage .Stay away from the JAZ drive! Good luck!

Funny,I've always heard the opposite; that it's the computer based stuff that crashes a lot...oh.well.I've had my VS880EX for over 2 years now and it has frequently been running 12-14 hours straight and never had a glitch and never lost a note.
