Here is my story:
I ordered a 40GB udma133 disk for my system disk and the company delivered a 200GB:
great hey? one problem: the 200GB is ultra ata (100mB/s) and not parralel ata(133MB/S) like the 40GB that I should have recieved. Working as a system disk (not audio disk) on a DAW, if the company lets me keep the 200GB one, will it be about as fast (Just for windows and programs as my audio disk is a s-ata 80GB)
thanks for any answers!!!

I upgraded a few months back to P4 3.0Ghz 2Gig DDR 400 ASus P4P800 - E Deluxe 800 Mhz FSB, Rack mounted, Zalman silent cooling...the works, cost me an arm and a leg.

Before that I used an ATX tower with an AMD 1800XP chip, one stick of 512 PC2100 ram, Gigabyte board....

Results?

I can run more channels with more plugin effects than I did before but I'm going the outboard route. I have a dedicated large frame A&H recording console, M- Audio digital convertors (1010, 2x 410 for 12 in/24 out)

I say one thing to home rec;rs PLEASE THINK!!!! what you need ytour DAW to do before crashing the cash!

Futureproof isn't a given but you can probably get your project done a whole lot cheaper with bucks left for essential equipment than going straigh out for the best PC base unit money can buy.

just my 2 pennys worth....scotland...where copper wire was invented by two men fighting over a penny

ATA never has reached it's theoretical limit anyway, so you'll be fine.

not like you are streaming audio with this drive. :)

and even if you were you'd be good :)

What giles117 said. We really don't have to be on the bleeding edge.

Sorry I don't understand this but if your saying I haven't thought about what to buy, I've been planning it for at least 6 months, changed my idéa on motherboards to get the best and been asking in forums :D

This is cool, I'll be having 280GB instead of 120. thats more games on my pc too!
