Hafler TRM6

Bought a pair (used), because I’ve had & used the “8 speaker version (TRM8) for many years - they are very “clear” sounding to my ears.
However, I need a set of smaller speakers for use in a smaller room.
the pair I received - though in perfect external condition -
produces untamable “blanket over the speaker’ mid-range slop .
I’ve tried - without any success -
working with the sensitivity, bass roll off, bass shelving, and treble shelving adjustment sliders in the back (no mid-range adjuster is provided). Result: still unusable.

Any experiences/thoughts ?

I haven't seen anything from Hafler for years! They have to be 25 years old, so it's possible there are "issues".

If they're that far off, it sounds like something has failed. First thing would be to check each driver. Are you getting sound from the tweeters? If not, then you'll need to check drivers and amplifiers. They shouldn't sound that drastically different than the 8" version, save a bit less bass extension.
