Hacking the Machine

I came across a AMD 5000 2X "Media Center" computer- the one with the built-in tuner and all that junk. I got it cheap enough to justify not building a machine from scratch. The hot-swap drive bay and a few of the other tricks are cool, but I want to hack this thing up to be a pure mixing/mastering unit. So I want to lose all of the TV stuff and whatever else doesn't make sense. I am not particularly new to this kind of stuff, but I never trust anything that has to do with television. Do I just rip out the TV card, nuke the drive and re-install winxp64? Any ideas would be helpful....

You can do it that way. Regardless you'll probably going to need to reinstall the operating system anyways. The TV card wont' hurt your system if left in there by itself, not hooked up. Some cards will take away from the resources though, so it'll probably be wise to take it out anyways. If you don't need it, there's no point in having it in there. Unless it's one of those TV tuner cards that also doubles as a video card. If it is a video card, I would leave it in there, cause chances are you'll probably take the card out, and use onboard video which would take from your resources even more than having it in there..
