I have a Strat style guitar (Kramer Striker 300 St) that I have installed Duncan PA-Tb-2 and two duckbuckers. This set up has worked well for me over the past couple of years with out any issues.

I recently installed a Fender Texas Special in the neck position (Bought new), and now my notch positions are about 1/2 output (#2 & #4). I don't see how I could have messed anything up as all I did was desolder the duckbuckers leads and resolder in the Texas Special's leads.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, and if so, what the cure/problem was.

Thanks in advace for your help.

Rick

PS - I also have a Fender Super switch installed (5-way, 4 pole) I have it set up where the middle position (#3) is my Bridge & Neck combined.

Here's a pic of the guitar for reference:

I also only have one Tone knob on this set up unlike the typical 2 tone knob set up.

Thanks,
Rick

Did you reverse polarity on the new pickup? Try swapping its leads and see what happens.

It sounds like the new pup is wired out of phase for some reason.

Yeah, what he said.

Definitely wired out of phase. www.stewmac.com offers free info sheets and they have a page that gives the wire color codes for many different pickup companies. I refer to it all the time when wiring guitars.

Man, I love those knobs on that strat, great pickguard too!

Since the Duckbucker is in the middle position, and that's the one that's being effected in the 2nd and 4th postions, is it the one that I should swap the leads out on? If it's the neck Texas Special that needs the leads swapped around on, can someone explain how that would effect position #2 (Bridge/middle) ... I'm just not getting it.

I'll try and pull it apart tomorrow night and swap some leads ---- it sucks though since it's a floyd guitar :(

Those knobs are cool arn't they!?

Thanks,
Rick

If the issue is with the in between switch possitions, then you want to try swaping the two conductors of the middle pickup. That will probably take care of it.

Ok cool!

I'll have some time this evening to work on it..........we'll see.

Thanks!!

I don't recall exactly where I purchased them through, but there are a lot of retailers that carry them (I think Stew-Mac is one)

They are "Q-Parts" brand, and the "UFO" model w/ white pearl acrylic inlays (To match my custom made pick guard as well. :D )

Here's a link: http://www.bill-lewington.com/qparts/ufo.htm

I was farting around with one of my amps last night instead of working on my guitar......hopefully tonight I'll get it taken care of. All though, I did just order another Texas Special middle pup,.. maybe I'll just wait till it arrives and slap it in there instead of messing around with it twice...........hmmmmmmmm
