here's two songs from my band's upcoming sophomore (jinx!) release:





yeah, the singer on that second song can't really sing. our response? : "Hey, that's part of its charm!"

would like to hear thoughts.

I checked out Hollywood Jerks. It had an interesting title. Cool guitar parts. I liked the drum sound except I thought the highhat was a bit too forward in the mix. The vox struggled a bit against the highhat.

The bass at 2:05 was a good part, but kind of thin sounding. It's clipping a bit too. The whole mix (almost) is clipping. Only portions of the clipping are audible, but it's going on quite a bit. Although I'm only listening on small headphones, I suspect on a home stereo system it might sound a bit on the muddy side.

Lots of midrange to the guitars, makes them a bit hard on the ears.

I was geared up for a nice rant against hollywood actors who think they'd make a good president (like Reagan I guess :D). The Barbra Streisand line got it off to a decent start, but after that I didn't think it said much. Kind of repetitive.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.
 
Question? does the drummer have a clicky pad on there(plastic or metal) how about the kick beater (hard plastic) or is that all EQ?

answer. one of those plastic-deals on the head, and i think he just used his stock iron cobra beaters (which i believe are felt). the trick for the nice snappy sound is just to detune your kick a whole lot, so the actual note becomes indistinguishable and it sounds like you're just hitting a wall.

another trick i've heard about but have never tried: tape (or glue?) some quarters or half-dollars on your beater-head. i heard that's supposed to give a lot of snap.

Thats not a very good idea in the long run, youll kill your skin.
