I can hear a bit of a change in sound when using the Parametric EQ in Guitar Tracks but not sure if it does that much for the better. I'm using Guitar Tracks 2, and it appears the feature is either on or off with no way to control it's settings, is this correct? Any of you use the Parametric?

I am assuming that it is the same one that is supplied with Pro Audio/Sonar. Does it look like this?

If this is the one, it has 4 bands of eq control.

The band that is "active" is selected by choosing one of the 4 buttons at the bottom right labeled "band."

The type of EQ control is chosen at the lower left- low shelf, high shelf, or peak.

Once you have selected a band and and type, you use the controls in the the "band data" section to set your parameters - gain, frequency and Q.

After you have set one band, you can move on to the next band by repeating the process.

P.S. You can also select the active Band, as well as control the gain and frequency by clicking and dragging on the nodes on the graphic representation.

However, the eq "type" and the Q setting still need to be worked via the other controls.

Yeah, that makes it combo "Parametric Graphic EQ"... :) Confusing but cool, eh? :)

An Eq of that quality probably isn't doing anything GOOD for your tracks. Thats an EQ you use on unimportant tracks. No way in hell I'd want that thing on my Lead Vox.

What if your Lead Vox is not that important? Can we use the EQ? :o

:D :D

I've got to agree with that 100%.

The stock effects in Cakewalk are nothing special, but if they're all you've got use 'em.

Myself,I'd try to get the sound as close as possible while you're tracking.Chances are whatever amp,or modeler you use is going to have better sounding EQ.

I agree.

In response to dachay2tnr, when I click on the Parametric EQ all that happens is a green light comes on, and I can hear a little bit of change but nothing pops up to make any adjustments, so I assumed it was some sort of automatic eq or something, but I don't particularly think it sounds better, just different.

There's no such thing as an "automatic eq" that I know of.

Did you try double-clicking on it to open it up? When it is opened, you should get something that looks like the screen shots I posted.

BTW, I am not trying to encourage you to use it - as I agree with the other posters that it is not the greatest. Rather I'm just trying to tell you HOW to use it, if you choose to do so. If it is all you have, and the material needs eq adjustments, I would certainly give it a try.

Thanks, next time I'm doing a track I'll try double-clicking it.
