Hi,

I use a Roland GR-30 synth with a Strat factory fitted with the midi pickup and switches. Has anyone ever used one of the Brian Moore midi guitars? It sounds inviting because it has the piezos, magnetic and midi pickups that can all be used at once.

One word ...

Godin

I have an LGX-SA, and it is one MF of a guitar ! I had tried a Brian Moore here in Korea recently, and I tell you, I definitely like my Godin much better. For me, anyway, it's a much more playable guitar. And the built in synth access beats the GK-2A all to hell - not to mention the piezo and Seymour Duncan pups. Tones galore !

If you're really in the market for a synth access guitar, give the Godin a try. There are others out there who would side with me as well, but don't forget to try everything - you may find something you like better.

Thanks! I didn't even know Godin made a Roland-ready guitar. I always saw them as the electric/acousticg masters. I'll check it out..THANKS!

I agree with teknomike, the Godin's blow the Brian Moore guitars away... they don't even come close.

You're going to spend a bit more money, but you'll be much happier in the long run.

In other words... "spend your money once."

I also have a GR-30, and the LGX-SA is on my "gotta have-it" list. ;)

We have a Godin in the shop right now, and I have to say that I found a number of design aspects really cheap looking. The joint between the bolt on neck and the body was really cheap looking, and was not nearly as smooth as I would expect on a well designed guitar, and the recessed bridge looks as though it is very difficult to adjust the intonation without marring the finish. On the other hand, the rest of the instrument looks pretty well designed and executed.

I use a Yamaha accoustic with a GK2 pickup that I mounted on. The accoustic is black so it actually looks like it was made for it. I also use a GR-09, one of the earlier synths Roland made. I really enjoy the accoustic sound with the synth added in to fill it out. I can also send it to the keyboard for more sounds via the midi cable.

Actually, I can surely agree with you on that - while I find the finish and the wood is very nice, it's the little things that I notice after a while.
Even around the piezo slider pots - first, it's a really cheap set of pots - noisy as hell. But the way they are set into the body just looks cheap. You can see the chassis right through the opening.
I I had paid full retail price for it, I would be some pissed. But I didn't, so I live with what I've got. The sounds and playability more than make up for the cosmetic and other design issues.
