Guitar User.
i know this is something most people buy!
how ever i was wondering if anyone has built guitar stands? i have way to many guitars in studio, i was wondering if you guys had any ideas for building them
(something that can hold 6 guitars) just to say all but one are acoustic. any ideas or links would help on this. i am tired of the mess (all my guitars sitting around with not enough stands and not enough money to buy them) :(

I bought 2 pieces of slatwall, and some music store guitar hangers that fit slatwall. Worked great. Saves floorspace, and looks good. They make them to face either right or left at an angle. Plus you can move them up, down, or anywhere you want.

yeah i have seen that done but it is not the cheapest thing to do on the spure of the moment in the longrun i would like to have a guitar room but space being what it is ....
i have a single and a double guitar stand the rest of the time they just sit around the studio i am thinking of making one sort of like one that i saw when i was a stage hand for Charley Daniels that was a big box made of ply wood covered in felt with noches for the guitar's to sit in and a droor under it for strings and parts but that looks like it hard to make and cost would be something to think about again thanks though

Home Depot sells a rubber coated utility hook shaped kinda like a wish bone. It has a course threaded base so you screw it right into a wall (hit a stud) or screw a few of them into a 1X4 board or something and screw that to the wall. The hooks are rubber coated and pretty heavy duty. I've comtemplated any negative results of using this system and i really can't think of anything, but if anyone has a reason why you shouldn't do this I'd love to hear it. To me it doesnt seem like its any different than hangin a guitar from the headstock like they do at the guitar stores.

I'll try to get a pic of mine tonight but it'll probably be late.

kinda like this- http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDU...ID=ccccadcmhihjddfcgelceffdfgidgng.0&MID=9876
the second one from the left. (i hope that link works- it might ask for your zip code)

The rubber on the hook may have a chemical reaction with the finish on the guitar neck. I've heard of several situations where people have had rubber based straps and found them welded to to top or side of the guitar when they open the case. I'd replace the rubber with leather. And, the inside diameter of the hooks may not be wide enough for the necks. However, if they are, i'd love to hear back. I'll buy a handful of them..

Yeah I've tried it before and I could barely get a 3/4 size practice guitar's neck to fit between the hook. The hook can be widened but the biggest problem I see is with the threaded part not being long enough to accomodate thicker guitars. The size I have definately won't work with an accoustic. They might make longer ones but I haven't seen them.

the ones i have are large enough to fit every electric instrument i own- Fender Jazz, Fender Strat, Washburn turd, Ibanez bass. It is a very tight fit for the one accoustic guitar I have that is really more of a childs toy than a musical instrument. The treads are PLEANTY long (an inch or more) to carry me, much less a guitar. The rubber coating is black and rough, not like the glossy yellow rubber you normally see on the hooks you would hang your bike up in the garage with.

...and i havent had any prob with them sticking to the finish on the guitar.

I'll get a pic up when i get home.

not really what i was looking at

this all looks good but i was looking more at a floor unit of some kind i did find this one that i may use its about what i need
see what you guys think check this out

that looks pretty expensive to build, i have to suggest just buying some. they have six space things, like this

Here a pic of an un-used hook sittin on my desk. The pick is for scale. Note that the ends curv up to better hold yer axe

And here is my American Jazz hangin on one of those hooks, I havent noticed any adverse effects between the rubber and headstock finish.

I think i bought these things for around $1 or $2 each from Home Depot

the link did not help much but
just to ask how much did these run you?

Yeah- I didnt think the link would be much help. I'm pretty positive i paid less than $3 each for these- probably more like $1-$2. I dont really remember- I've made countless trips to the Depot in the last 2 years.

Seriously though- these things are stong enough to carry ME and my guitar.

I am finishing my jam studio, and have had my eye open on the guitar / bass hanger idea for a while. Keeping in mind that we would all like our collection of ax's to mimic that of the guitar center wall, with the ability to rearange at will, I too am purchasing a 4x8 sheet of MDF slatwall. I think it goes for about 30-40 bucks a sheet. They quoted me 22 for a half sheet. Either would be plenty for me and my boy.

the local GC here says they get their display parts from Victory Display. They wont sell me slatwall guitar hangers.

I also ran acrossed some nice fully adjustable wall hangers in the edmonton mall at the only guitar shop there. Ill post the brand name later if I can remember it...... they had padded rubber cushion, fully adjustable, and had the flip over lock (not like ive ever seena guitar just jump out of an open hanger)
