I had originally recorded a demo song with my band about a year ago but we didnt get it to sound reasonable so after that song we sold the stuff. Just lately we decided to give it another go with new knowledge that we had accumulated. I have a firestudio project and we just finished the drums on one song, they sound pretty good and we are all more than satisfied. However, now to my guitar. I want to know how to get it to sound like it does professionally, obviously not perfect but closer than what I get now. It just sounds like garbage compared to the drums. I guess Im trying to say I want it more lifelike. How do recording engineers get the guitar to sound so lifelike but like it wasnt recorded from an amp?

gdavi1's summed up the answer fairly well without a singe word. But we can give you more information if you give us more. What kind of music, how are you recording the guitar now, what does it sound like recorded, can you post a clip, etc...

We are rock, sort of heavy but not extremely. The first time I recorded I used a 57 on the speaker but now I bought a new cab, which has a mic eliminator xlr input on it, I thought that would make it easier but it doesnt sound that great. I will post a clip here in a bit. The recording seems dark, not very bright at all.

it may eliminate the use of a microphone but that doesn't mean it imitates it.
What you need to do is have someone play, and someone move the microphone around while you listen through the headphones until you get a great sound. Stick with the 57 you have used before and put it right up on the grill. Since you have a firepod you could also place an LDC if you have one start the LDC around 6" away and keep pulling it back till you get a good sound, mix the two to taste.

Read this link and it will help you out alot.
