Hello, I was wondering how to get the guitar sound on the smashing pumpkins' song zero. Does anyone know what kind of amp or effects are used on that song?

Not sure exactly what was used on that specific song.
Probably strat -> big muff (russian?) -> marshall.

As I recall the big muff was modded into a Creamy Dreamer.

Here's a nice site covering quite a bit of sp gear:

I know a big part of Billy's sound was '80s Marshall JCM800s with KT88 tubes instead of the EL84s. He said it gave him a more "round" sound.

Also, as Sloan mentioned, he was very fond of the Big Muff. He also used a rare pedal called the Fender Blender, which sort of sounds like a chainsaw.

And he favored Strats with Lace Sensor pickups in them. Those things would probably be a good start toward getting that sound.

On that album he used the strats with red lace sensors at the bridge (with an Sg here and there) into a rack with a marshall jmp-1 pre-amp and Mesa Boogies Strategy 500 power amp. Whammy wh-1 for a lead or two.
