Guitar Rig & Latency

Hey all,

I was woundering how i might lower my latency so i might play around with guitar rig in real time?

The lowest i have been able to get my latency is about 7ms, which is enough to mess me up when i am playing.

I have a brand new HP, 2.1 GHZ @ 512 MB ram, i have the built-in sound card, and a Mad Dog Multimedia Predator 5.1 sound card. I also have a Tascam us-122, but even with the newest ASIO drivers, i can only get the latency down to 27 ms.

Any ideas?

If you're talking about Native Instruments Guitar Rig software, that is probably the best you are going to be able to do.

There is a function on the US-122 that allows direct monitoring of the input source, and with the preamp wound all the way up you can PROBABLY get away with an approximation of what you want to achieve. Unless, of course, you're into black metal or something...

I'm quite aware of that.

If you need to hear some extra crunch or distortion beyond what overdriving the US-122 preamp will give you, invest in a J-station or a V-amp and go into the preamp thru that. That way you can hear your playing and monitor an 'almost' sound, then process it to ultimate perfection by pumping the wav thru the NI --- you'll need a splitter cable to send one side to whatever cheap box you choose and to record the other side clean.

That sould solve your 'getting messed up by 7 ms of latency' problem.
