Anyone use the guitar pod for recording acoustic guitar, like on the tube preamp setting? Also, how were your results for using it in a live situation? I am thinking of getting one mainly for live acoustic work and to warm things up and for the compression and reverb, with the tube preamp, and for just for some different options in recording. (I already have a nice Vibrolux Reverb and some fulltone effects for my electric).

Thanks!

I've done it but the "clean tube pre" setting isn't very clean and some of the amp emulations, while no cleaner, do a better job of covering up that fact.

Pods suck for clean tones. You would probably be better of getting a good mic/instrument pre.

I have used the POD for recording accustic guitar (indeed useing the "tube preamp" setting. I was not as satisfied as I had hoped I would be - it did not "warm up" the sound. I have not used the POD live.

I have heard some good things about the Yamaha AG Stomp - for accoustic guitar - in particular in a live setting - however, I have not tried one yet.

oh hell!, mic it up! you'll get a much better sound!

Hey Tex,

I know I agreed with you at one time in another post. I have been working hard and found some pretty good ones. I agree it takes a bit of work. Like LongWave said mic that silly thing.

podding an acoustic.

Ban all elements, ban all pods while recording acoustic guitars.
Use a mic, preferably a tube.

Could be a new Behringer product...the v-acoustic, an acoustic guitar with build in amp-simulator, stereo-speakers, 64led tuning and yellow leds on the fredboard. With 250 tunes build into memory.

Bottomline....it's called acoustic guitar. Don't connect anything that needs power directly to it.

Fangar- You saying you found some decent clean tones? If so whats the best amp or settings? I think the noise in general is just too much but I havent really done any serious patch editing on it.

Hey Tex,

Lemme spend some time with it and I will sribble down the settings for you. I have found one that I like and it has been working for me lately. I wish I would take the time to buy the midi hookup dealio for the PC to try that software out. I think I will soon. The cable is only about 20 bucks.

POD rocks for distorcion.

but it add noise when recording clean guitars,
I mean electric clean guitars.
I cant imagine it in an acoustic guitar.
never try it, I think I will never do.

sometimes I have to use Cool Edit Pro's Noise Reduction in the "clean" electric guitar track when using a POD :D

I haven't had a problem with noise. May be the guitar I guess. I have found it to be pretty quite.

Noise with the Pod eh? Definately sounds like the guitar or something other than the pod............Cables? one of the main reasons I have the pod is because it's direct recording is pretty much noise free as far as I can tell......that's why I got it...

Hey Fangar..........one of the biggest dissappointments I've had with it is the lack of "clean" sounds.........I've tried alot of different things and I keep getting stuff that I think sounds relatively clean but then when I record it I find that it often still has a distorted flavour to it...Anyway, I would be interested in hearing about those settings as well man....

And Bri....I definately would NOT go pod for accoustic, unless I was trying to intentionally shoot for something left of center :)

Actually I agree about recording with it. I tried it, sounded weird, A mic would be better. I have an ovation though so its usually just going straight in through a direct box, and then we have a room mic and mix the two. I was thinking it might help for the non mic part.

What I am more interested in is people playing live with it (for acoustic). I borrowed one and tried it out through the PA yesterday. It actually gives it a creamier sound,I just had all the setting flat, no effects, no reverb. I dont really like the ovation sound, although I love the way it cuts through in a live situation. The POD seems to smooth things out, plus I get reverb and effects if I want them (I just use the tube preamp setting nothing else, unless I want some effects).

Since I am getting a really good deal on it from a friend, I think its worth it.

Have any of you tried a pod through a PA for a live setting on acoustic?

For you guys that said it was not clean, did you have the drive set to 0 on the tube preamp setting?

Ok. As soon as I am done here, I will move over to it and fiddle and try to get some positions for you.

Well here is a problem. I have know idea what the hell I have done to create this. The problem is I started fiddling and forgot to write it down. So now that I look back, I have know way of knowing where I am at as the knob reset issue. If you move the knobs on a different bank then go to a saved tone, the knobs do not reflect where the settings actually are. So here is where I started. I know that I like the Tube Preamp setting for the amp models. The Drive is at about 25-30% (9 o'clock). The rest is a mystery. I knw that I started with preset BANK 2 B (Which shows to be a Dumble with rotary. (Whatever the hell that is). Anyway the link below gives you an idea. Works for me for now. Ibanez Rg570 (Mahognany) with the rear humbucker split (Switch in 4th position). See what you think. Comes across a bit compressed via the MP3, but I think you'll get the idea.

Thanks Fangar......Don't worry, I surely wouldn't remember the settings either....I always forget to write that stuff down.....Anyhow I'll start with what you gave me and see where it takes me from there....

I don't have time to listen to the clip right now...but I'm glad you posted it....and I'll listen later and get back to you on it....Thanks

You betcha,

If you remember to jot down the combos you get, Let me know I would like to fiddle with what you come up with too. Good luck

Brian, I play guitar at church and the guy that plays with me sometimes uses a pod for his Martin HD-28. I think he uses the "tube pre" with a little chorus/reverb. I don't have the heart to tell him it sounds pretty crappy. He mostly fingerpicks and plays little fill pieces so it's not too bad, but it doesn't help warm up the piezo sound, which I think is what you don't like about your ovation. For the money I would try some of the other suggestions like a real pre-amp + eq or some sort of mic blend to add the "woody" guitar sound to the piezo. Of course, if you already own a pod it can't hurt to just experiment with it.

Yamaha Box

Yamaha do a dedicated accoustic pre-amp with effects. Can't remember what it's called but it is the equivalent of the DG-Stomp (which I have) but for accoustic guitars.
But for the money you many be as well getting a channel strip (Joe Meek, dbx) as you will be able to use it on vocals as well as guitar.
