I mix in (2x) real-time
So I decided to start trying to fiddle with my old squier electric guitar. I have spare pick up that I was thinking of trying to put on there. When I removed my pickguard, I noted that all of the pickups each had one white wire and one black wire. Assuming the white is the hot wire and black is the ground wire.

Furthermore, the pick up that I was intending to put on has 4 wires. A white wire, black wire, red wire, and a green wire. Will this pickup not work with my guitar? How can I wire it so that it does? I would like to learn a little more about these things but with internet browsing, I was having trouble finding direct answers. Hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks a lot, Eric.

The new Pickup with the 4 wires is Probably a Double coiled Pickup and each set of wires is for each coil of the pickup so there will be 2 hot wires and 2 cold wires....

If the Pickup you are replaceing is a Double couled pickup but only has 2 wires this is because both coils are wired together which is what they usually do with cheaper double coil pickups......

What you will probably have to do is Figure out which 2 wires are for each pickup coil and then figure out which is the hot and cold wires and then figure out if you want to wire the 2 coils in Paralell or in series.....

The last time I had to do this I wires the 2 coils in paralell and then simply wired it like Normal with the 2 wires......

With a Little Trial and error you should be able to figure this out on your own....

If you know the exact type of pickup you are useing then you can use Google to find a wireing diagram.....

Cheers

Hit the Seymour Duncan site. It is the best collection of diagrams and has a great forum with a bunch of really helpful people.
