Bring Back Transfat!
These are my guitars down in their safe little room in da basement. They cause me no problems. We have this relationship agreement: I don't ever touch them, so they never have issues! :D

Seriously...it stays a pretty consistent 70 degrees down here, and pretty dry. Is there any other precaution I should take to minimize finish issues or warping?

It's funny, at the last house the basement stayed warmer, and the tuning would always go loose. At this palce it's cooler and the string tighten up a bit after a couple days. Seems backwards.

well actually its not backwards. the strings could loosen a tiny tiny bit because when theres more heat molecules move faster which allows metal to be somewhat "stretched". thats why when ALOT of heat is applied to metal it turns into a liquid, its just that the molecules are separating and moving faster.

so cold could potentially "shrink" strings.

i know i didnt really answer your question and i didnt contribute much so sorry for that lol.

"Couldn't help". Oh bullshit. Hey, you're thinking. Cold strings shrink a bit. I'll buy that. Here...have a rep point! :D

Cool, thanks!

And hey...don't try that talcum powder thing that gerg suggested. He's just taunting me cause I think I'm cooler lookin' than he is.

BTW - I LOVE that LP. Cherry sunburst is my favorite flavor.

BTW x2 - The talcum powder thing was a joke making fun of that dumbshit Victory Pete.

I put powder on my hands when I play, It gets on the neck and I wipe it down. It has worked great for me and others.

Hey Grip - what model LP is that and is that a Peter Green mod I see on there?

Yeah, I almost had myself taked into trans-blue, but the ol' classic won out.

I knew the talcum was a chain yanker. I remember someone telling some guy to spray his axe with Fibreeze and Pam to keep it fresh and shiny. :D

Just a box-stock LP standard. Stock magnets. Got lucky on the finish with the grain not being completely washed by the stain.

She's pretty. The pic makes the neck pup look reversed.

More to the point, are there any waxes or polishes I should be using. Should there be some kinda humidifier used on acoustics serving life in a basement?

I've had guitars all my life that I never took very good care of. I didn't leave them in the car with the kids for hours while I hung out in the bar or anything, but I have had a few warped necks and flaky finishes though. :o

Thanks. My wife has helped me indulge my mid-life craziness. ;)

Her computer room is right above my music room. Gotta get some insulation and a ceiling up before she cuts power to the basement! :D

To answer your question - I never do shit to my guitars. I have a maple neck G&L Asat that's needed a few neck tweaks here and there but it seems to have settled in now. The Les Pauls are bulletproof. The Tele too. I do have an Ovation that I put in it's case with a damp washcloth in the winter. I had the top split wide open on the original so the warranty guitar I keep my eyes on.

I just change the strings on 'em when they start to be tetanus hazards and hose 'em down with a little Finger-ease and I'm good to go.

If it's dry, you need to be humidifying your guitars.

The absolute best thing is to keep the guitars in their cases, with a humidifier in the case. The best way to humidify the case is with a Kyser Lifeguard and a soap dish humidifier (a simple travel soap dish, with some holes drilled in the lid and a damp sponge inside). If you can't do that, you're going to have to humidify the room, but that is a really bad option as it is all but impossible to get the room's relative humidity high enough, and it can wreck your house.
