Just tweaked a track that I had up here before after taking some suggestions onboard.
Just wondering re the mix... does everything sit ok? The really difficult bit for me is trying to separate the lead from the rhythm guitars & bass so that things don't get muddy, still struggling there - tips would be cool.
The drums are tough to get any better - I'm using EZdrummer DFH which kind of lacks power.
I've been listening to this for too long now that I can't tell what sounds good or not anymore. Any suggestions on how to improve the overall sound would be appreciated!

BTW I used different guitars and settings for both the rhythm and lead parts.

Nice playing! You're tones are cool too. One thing I've found that helps keep the rythym guitars out of the way of the bass is to high pass them, quite savagely if necessary. They sound like ass on their own, but when the bass gets dropped in it all comes together. The drums on this sound feeble in comparison to the guitars. I don't use DFH so I can't help but for real drums parallel compression helps keep them out front and in the face. If you get the drums sorted and get more presence on the bass, you'll have a real nice piece here

Thanks for checking it out, I pretty much took all of the bass out of the rhythm guitars and let the bass guitar fill in the low end then tweaked the lead to sit in on top so that even muted runs on the lower strings still retained clarity. Still can't manage any better with the drums though - don't have the time or ability to bounce each track down to individual wavs for mixing, have to go with the EZdrummer interface for now which pretty much sucks and blows. I would love to import the midi files into DFH Superior but the kits are different (ie the Superior kit is about half the size...).

I don't think there's too much mud in there...
I usually cut everything under 100 away from rhythmguits, pretty much all under 400 from lead, dip the bass eq around 200-400 widely and seek definition on a small bump somewhere higher.
Oddly, your EZ drums sound a lot thinner than mine?..

Nice lead-work!:D
With the tapping and everything.
Tone is cool too, not too much distortion, but good sustain. Perhaps a tad more clarity with some highs...
I'd suggest more investing in riffs and the songs in general,
leadwork alone carries only so far..:(
But sounds cool anyway though.:D

Jouni, thanks for the comments - not sure why my version of EZdrummer sounds weaker than yours... the two things that I did to the final wav before converting it to mp3 were to add some warmth wth Steinberg's Magneto and a limiter to boost everything, might have something to do with it...

One thing you could try is to route your drum track out to your preamp, or guitar pedals to dirty it up a bit. Then rerecord it & blend with the original track to add more bite

The drums are programmed really well but they are all top end IMHO. At high volume all I get is an annoying clicking in my ears. I don't use EZ Drummer (yet) so I have no suggestions except to maybe turn down the treble and up the bass on them.

The shredding on this is fantasmigorical (I think that's how you spell it lol).

:D:):D:)
