guitar control midi?

I'm totally new to midi as I've always just used microphones on my instruments... but lately I've been reading and was wondering if I played my guitar as a midi track, would I be able to use a vst instrument to say... play piano or something.

I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, realize I've never used midi before

There are midi guitars that send midi data but you cannot use a standard guitar. Midi is digital data, not audio

you can also outfit a standard guitar with a midi pickup and sound module, usually available as a package. i know roland makes one, not sure who else does.

google "midi guitar pickup" and you should get results from sweetwater, gc, etc.

Ther have been various versions of guitar synths and MIDI converters out for years.The good news is that they track better than ever.The bad news is that it still takes a little getting used to.I've heard these on a few occasions and have come away pretty impressed,I'm surprised I don't see more people using them.Maybe it's because you can buy a keyboard for the same price.

I've copied some links including synths,but as long as you have a MIDI converter there's no reason you can't plug the guitar into a VSTI either.

for single note stuff (no chords), ReaTune in reaper will convert notes to midi. You can play drums or whatever that way, but only a tone at a time.
