Guitar Buzz

I am in the process of mixing a demo CD for a chicago style blues band that has a great guitar sound. Unfortunately the guitarist had a rather large pedal board that caused a lot of hum in the recording. I've done my best in getting most of it out by cutting the sections were he wasn't playing as well as eq a good majority of the hum as much as I possibly could without hurting the guitar. I have heard that recording buzz on a separate track and then flipping the phase may work but I have yet to try it. I was wondering if anyone has run into this and was able to fix it without having to rerecord?

I doubt you'll be able to get a buzz to cancel with a phase flip, might even make it worse. Waves Z-Noise has worked pretty well for getting rid of unwanted hiss/buzz/hum.

You know, I've heard great things about those waves plugs that can get rid of things like crackles, distortion, etc, but they just cost a ton and don't fit the budget... Does anyone know of free plugins that do a similar task and are of reasonable quality?
I ask because I run amp modeling plugins with DI guitars now and then and there is always a background "hiss" that drives me crazy. I'd love to minimize that.

I usually don't mind the plugin hiss when the guitar is actually playing, so I usually just throw a gate on it so it doens't mess with broke down parts. If you High Pass it and gate it it shouldn't be that terrible.
