Hey all,

After a long search, i could not find the guitar i was looking for. (Let alone in a leftie), So i decided i should put some of my woodwork skills to use and try my hand at guitar making,
From this i wanted to ask, has anyone done this them selves, and have any pictures to show of their work?

Thanks

Yeah. Are you going to do an electric or acoustic?

I worked in the shop of a luthier friend of mine - a half day each week for a year and made a classical guitar. I did the traditional Spanish construction method - bending sides by hand against a hot iron, Spanish heel, etc. Started with band sawing the soundboard from a billet of western red cedar and ended with a light coat of French polish. Really glad I did it. Couple of pictures during construction here. The finished guitar is on the CD cover on the same web page.

For me the big difference between guitar making and my previous woodworking experience (pretty simple cabinetry and carpentry stuff) was that so much of the joinery used on the guitar involved curved surfaces. Hell, almost everything's arched or has compound curves.

I second the Carvin Bolt kit...

That is the way to go for a first time build. And when you are done you have a real nice playable guitar..

You can get the Carvin kit in lefty. There are also a lot of undocumented options. Hang out on their discussion board for a while.

I really want a Vox Phantom electric, thats why i decided to go for this,
I would be using the neck of a different guitar, and just building the body, and wireing it myself.

Thanks 4 all your help

Carvin has a nice neck available as a lefty. There are also lots of options available, like inlays, frets, fingerboards, and headstocks.

All the Carvin talk, Are they paying you to say that?

joking hehe!

Thanks for the advice :)

I just wish they made a tele neck so I didn't have to make my own.

I have seen posts here and there about people who put a Carvin neck in a tele.
