I have one here to try out and the guy wants $200 for it with a shock mount. Good deal or not?

I like the mic on my voice but haven't tried it on anything else as of yet.

good

I'd say it's a good deal. I own the GT57 (multi pattern version of the GT55) and for the price it's a killer mic. Not a Neumann or anything, just great for what it costs.

With the shockmount i'd say it's worth it, I've seen them without the shock at GC for 199.99 so with the normal discount there you'd probably get it for around the same price with the shockmount.

I don't know. They seem to regularly go for less than that on e-bay. More like $140 to $170. There's one up as a BIN for $150 although I can't tell if the shock is included.

I really wanted to like this mic, but I just couldn't. Compared to the AT4040 and the KSM27 it was just too noisy. Picked up TONS of room noise that the others didn't.

Mines neither too noisey, nor does it pick up too much room noise. You know, I've noticed that when you put a decent mic in a subpar room it really shows how subpar that room is. I had a baby bottle that picked up way more noise than my groove tubes, doesn't mean it's a noisey mic, just means it's got a lot of gain and detail.

In my room the GT is pretty quiet. It might have something to do with the fact that I don't have any computers, fans, or the like such in there. ;)
When there isn't any noise to pick up you'd be surprised at how quiet the mics really are. :D

For $200, awesome mic. It's very 'stark' sounding to me, but also very accurate. I'd go for it if your other mics already have more color. I love the (lack of) character, but I personally like my music more 'raw'. YMMV, etc. I use it on everything except drums, love it on voice and, believe it or not, guitar cab (along with a 57).

It's the only Mic that I have that seems to work on my voice. I'm going to try it on a cab here in a couple of days. Where do you put it? Back a ways?
