Taking the slow road
i was listening to cd 101.9 in NY which is smooth jazz, it's not on a button, i was just scanning, and i heard this bass that sounded like the bass sound from Amy Grant, Baby Baby? or maybe even more growly.

i thought it was a synth, which it might be on Baby, but this sounded more like a bass guitar, but it was super clear, well-defined, and effected. i have no idea what the song was, it would prolly sound weird on a rock tune or blues or anything authentic, but on smooth, polished pop it's fine.

also, it was most likely below E, maybe a keyboard, or a 5-string.

i know, it's impossible to describe a sound....

What time was it when the tune came up? Maybe you could look up their playlist, find out what tune it was and then post a sample?

Is it inappropriate to make fun of you for listening to Amy Grant?

A lot of bass processors have distortion now. I use it a lot. The Sansamp Bass DI I use has a setting for it, and it's programmable.

given the genre, i'd assume it was an active bass, recorded DI with some distortion. i would also suspect the bass part was doubled on a synth and blended in. so i think your suspicion was right--it's probably both.

cheers,
wade
