All of this talk about the 1200 and I'm reconsidering buying the 900. Chance, what would you say the best uses for each of those mics are? I am totally lost in what I could use those mics for and need some serious help with making a decision.

PS. Thanks for giving us poor people a reason to live. Inexpensive quality gear (is that possible) is what make home recording world go round.

Was there ever any clarification regarding the theory that the 73 pres will be at the less $25 price point if they go over 200 units EVEN IF the other pres do not surpass 100 units each??

Simply logic seems to suggest that YES, even if 100 of EACH pre are not ordered, the 73 will still have the lower price point IF it exceeds 200 units on it's own.

But the 'official word' on this would be much appreciated :) It's the difference between getting an ACM-3 or not for me :) :) :)

duplicate post. Move along now, nothing to see here....

Man, I feel your pain... I've not had a paycheck since December 7, 2007...

I've worked odd-jobs and have raised enough to get 2 of the preamps... I'd like to have one of the ACM-1200's, but that'll have to wait... I hope those are offered in the future as well...

yea, i'm going to try to work some OT at work so i can splurge on the 1200, but the preamps are looking pretty out of reach right now

it's depressing when you have 2 people who work full-time living under the same roof, but all the $$ is gone as soon as the rent/utilities are paid and the gas tank is filled.

Yeah, I'm curious about the same thing on the ACMP-73's... It could be the difference between getting an ACM-1200 or not for me :) :) :)

Hi Mat, we're all in the same boat. [whilst buried in this thread] Chance however has responded to this question

Chance said:
There were many who got this mic in the first GB I believe that number was HST-11A. My opinions of these would be biased and people that got them would be more valid info.

Check this thread

For reviews on previous group buy purchases. No-one has any real info on what the new items will sound like.

This is something I don't know how the manufacturer will react to. They might reject having to set up assembly to make only 6 of one type of mic. I still can't reach anyone because of the Frankfort show. I do know however that the mic pres are a seperate order from their electronics division, whereas the mics are from their mic division.
I really want to get going on this but my hands are tied until they return.

I don't see a price on that mic in the signup page. That may be why nobody has asked for one. That said, I have a pair of what I believe are the same mic from a major manufacturer (except for the ribbon thickness). They're just so incredibly oversized that they're pretty impractical, IMHO.

That said, because they're huge, I had room to add in a Lundahl transformer and a switch so I could choose whether to go Hi-Fi or Low-Fi, which I can't say about any of the smaller mics.

Bottom line: if your goal is a modder mic, the ACM-1 is a good choice because there's room to put in just about anything you could think of within that bottom can. If your goal is a recording mic, I'd probably pick one of the other models for weight and size reasons.

Yes, been wondering about that possibility...

Here's an earlier page regarding the ACM-1, with some pictures I took of mine. It is big and heavy, but it doesn't bother me. I kind of like it. The discussion is back around page 75 of the thread.

Dgatwood--What is the model # of the Lundahl you used? I haven't modded mine yet, but I'm collecting info for that eventuality.
Tarnationsauce2 used a Cinemag CM-9887 in his (very similar) mike.
Someone else mentioned using an Edcor. Which model, I wonder?

Back a few pages in this thread, Chance stated why he didn't price 2 of the mics in this buy...can't remember the reason right off the top of my head, but it's in this thread... If/when he sends me those 2 prices, I'll add them to the registration/User Console....

Forgive me but I've been under the weather, which 2 mics are you referring to?

Wow, since I haven't checked this thread or forum recently I almost missed this again.

Question: Would any of these mic be better than a SM58 or SP B1 for rock vocals? I've tried to search myself, but most info on the mics is in this impossibly long 120 page thread.

It looks like some people are saying the ACM-4 is good with vocals, but it looks like it won't be included in this GB and I'm not sure if it would be better than the two I mentioned...

I was just looking at the present totals. The ACM-1 and 4 seem to have little interest. I am considering dropping these. I am considering this because these are not anything special and can be purchased under other brand names at a resonable cost. In addition the manufacturer frowns, and might decline making 5 or 6 mics of one style. Any thoughts?

Okay, now, I think it makes sense to drop any mic that can't produce enough interest to keep the manufacturer interested in the product
