Howdy, all. I'm looking to update my guitar sound to something a little more mid-heavy and have really been digging on the current Green Day guitar tone (though our musical style is more on the metal end of things).

Any tips on how to get that sound in the studio? I don't really have a choice in amp/cabs, but I have access to a few different amp modelers including POD 2.0, VAmp Pro, and Boss GT-6. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

J

P.S. For anyone who's interested, mp3s of my current tone can be found on the Media page at www.30SoS.com.

Yes, Billie Joe Armstrong is a big fan of P90's. That coupled with power amp distortion makes for a huge tone. You're not going to achieve it with an amp modeler. You have to get a low wattage tube amp and crank it 'till the power tubes start to clip. That'll get you in the ballpark for recording.....

Take a peak at some Green Day fansites, some crazy fans will be happy to give you info on every little detail about billys set up,

even down to what pics he uses :)

I agree on the Gibson tone, with my SG special and a Hughes-Kettner WARP pedal I got for about $40, I can get any heavy tone there is through my Fender Amp on clean... I have a Les Paul too, but can't use as much gain because the burstbuckers are phat!!!
