Great mic for guitar and bass

I play punk/metal and I spent about 4 frustrating years trying to find a mic to record guitars and bass with. I tryed a SM57, an AKG C3000, and even a neumann. None of them ever seemed to translate to tape well. Recently I bought a used sennhieser 421MD and it seems to do the trick really well. Just thougt I might save someone the hassle I had to go through. or at least steer someone in the right direction.

if you couldn't get a good sound with a 57, you are doing something wrong. I play metal and record my dual rectifier with one SM 57. it sounds better than any of this Pod bullshit.
