I am pleased to announce the unveiling of my new home studio. (Drum roll, please.)

http://www.hp-h.com/p/hapicmpur/homespunStudio.htm

It’s only a one-room, hobby-quality studio, but it’s all I’ve got and it sure beats trying to track and mix in a corner of the bedroom – which is how I used to do it.

My little studio was a community effort. Had I not discovered this forum, my walls would undoubtedly be covered with moving blankets and egg crates, and that’s just the beginning of what would have gone wrong.

They say it takes a village, so here are the main Village People who helped me:

Apl, distortedrumble, Ethan Winer, frederic, HangDawg, Innovations, joshj, knightfly, kremitmusic, maxbato, Milkman, Mind Riot, mixsit, mshilarious, notbradsohner, pdlstl, Rick Fitzpatrick, Scottgman, Son of Mixerman, stayouttamalibu, thane1200, vestast, and wells.

I took a lot of pictures as I constructed my room treatments, and I put them on my site in hopes that they might help other newbies like myself create or improve their own studios. If you find any information on my site that’s misleading or just plain incorrect, please bring it to my attention so I can fix it. And if some of my text seems insultingly basic to you, please understand that the main audience of my site is friends and relatives who just want to know what I’ve been up to and who don’t have any background in recording.

Thanks again,
HC

P.S. I’ve tried to give everybody on my list a rep point, but I keep getting an error message saying that I don’t have “sufficient privileges,” or something like that. What gives?

link isn't workin for me
Yeah, I know. No sooner did I get the website organized and uploaded than my host's server started getting glitchy. Keep trying, though; I'd really like to know what people think of the studio.

Hey HapiCmpur. That looks very nice! It has a certain ambiance to it that reminds me of a pro studio. I guess it's the combination of the track lights, the dark panels, and the rich wood floors.

I was wondering if and how the a/c vent affects the room sound when the a/c is on? If it does, are you planning on "treating" that too? Somewhere I read about putting up some kind of panel to deflect the air, but I don't really know much about it.

Looks great Hapi. And the commentary is nicely done with regards to helping out newbies. Something that I think would be also incredibly helpful to newbs is a breakdown of the price for everything you did.

HC,

The studio looks great....... congratulations.

I like the absorber art section- smart thinkin. My only critism- whit paint on the walls. I need color!! :D
Looks great

Very classy! I like your space alot. Now to overflow it with new gear! :D Unless of course the remodeling has broke you.

Congratulations!
We expect to hear great things now. No excuses! :p

[EDIT] Where's the lava lamp?

Congrats man. It looks great to me. And you have already been a help to me in making my panels.

your studio looks awesome! and great website too. i'm gonna try and throw up a website once my studio gets finished. i like how you broke down the steps of how you made your absorbers, i'm gonna be using that info once my mineral wool arrives hehe. anyway, congratulations again on your new studio.

:D

There's a vent in the ceiling above my guitar rig, and I've put a deflector on it to keep the air from blowing directly onto my gear. But I don't intend to treat the vent other than to shut off the a/c during "critical" takes. That won't be too hard, 'cause not many of my takes are critical.

Good point, Beagle. On your suggestion, I just went back and added some estimates to the page on bass traps and the one on broadband absorbers. Thanks.

Me, too. One day I hope to learn how to play it.

I know, I know! I'm going to have to keep tweaking the studio so I can "excuse" my lack of musical productivity.

Post a recording!
See what I mean? The pressure's on already.

Uh, sorry, DogFood, but...er...I need to...um...add some more foam. Yeah, that's it -- foam...

HC,

Most excellent. Way to go!

Great job!

Like Thane said though.... You need at least one Lava lamp :D

Hey gents, what about my rep point question? What might be keeping me from awarding them?

When I ran a search on rep points, all I got was a lot of threads from people who want the rep point system abolished. Nothing on how to get "privileges" to award points. Has the system been suspended while a decision on that is being made?

Anyone, anyone...?

Sorry don't know. I never understand the point of them in the first place. I don't know how I got the ones I have!

So you're going to avoid the HARD questions eh?!?

Very nice man...but what about reflectors, diffusers blablabla everybody seems to have?

Don't come down on me, I'm just a newbie when it comes to acoustics and stuff (plus I'm planning on doing a room in a few months, too)
