I just installed a radeon 2400HD 256mb graphics card so i can run another screen of my desktop but its using up 50% of my already meager CPU!! ive updated and reinstalled the drivers with no joy...I know my PC's a bit antiquated but i thought it should be able to handle this!

any suggestions much appreciated... before i sling it..

Forgot to add its only the core 2 thats running high..core 1 is normal...

XP Pro SP2
Intel P4
3.00Ghz
4GB RAM

It shouldnt be using any of your cpu. What was in your pc before. If it was an integrated gpu (graphics) then make sure its disabled in the bios.

yup disabled it...no change :(

In the bios there are settings to control how your board communicates with the video card you installed. Do a google search on tweaking your bios and see what comes up. Or it could be a driver issue to. I never use the drivers that microsoft put out and always use the video card manufacturers drivers. Even then you may find a previous driver version may work better on your pc than a newer version.

Are you sure it's the graphics card doing it? Have you looked at your running processes?

when the cards out everything runs fine...I tweaked in the bios and managed to get the core 2 down to around 3% but the core 1 was then running at 20+%...

Ive taken it out and tried to contact them but im getting zero response...

it was only $30 new so its not like a great loss...and there are usb vga adapters if i want to run another screen off the desktop...still bit of a waste :(
