Hello, im new to the board (been reading for a while, just havent posted)

My friend who is wanting to help me fund my studio, has said that you can get a Federal grant to help you build it by stating that it will be a small business (which wouldnt be all that untruthful, I plan on recording many bands there) He has the Matthew Lesko book (yea, that guy, lol) and says that he did a little more research and it can be done with 3 business partners, which a grant up to 10, 000.

I already have the roof, concrete and main structure, I just need to enclose it, and provide a little equipment.

Has anybody heard of or had any luck with this?

I talked to a few people who said that they are in the process of getting a proposal written for the same purpose.

If you could help at all, let me know.

I assume you are talking about federal grants from the United States government?

The federal government does NOT provide grants to small businesses!
Most federal grants are awarded to organizations planning major projects of benefit to their community. For example:

A neighborhood street paving project
A state-wide program to re-train displaced workers
A project to attract new businesses to a depressed downtown area
A regional water conservation program
A county-wide flood control project

Now, you may be able to get a Small Business Loan backed by the federal government. But that's a loan, not a grant.
