I am building a home recording setup and the only item I have so far is a Quattro sound card on the way. I think my next step should be a pre-amp. I am thinking of the Grace 101. Is that a good choice for vocals? I'll be recording vocals and guitar to start out with. Also, would that pre be used for live as well?

I agree, I have the Grace 101 and love the sound I get from it. I also use a Mackie CFX20 and the Grace is better by far. Tracks I record using the Grace 101 sit in the mix well and are very receptive to post processing such as EQ or compression. The Grace seems to capture more of the original source and does it in a way that is pleasing to my ears. I have been using it with an AT4040 and AT4033 to name a few. The AT4040 is a very nice mic in my opinion and can be found at an affordable price.

The vocal track in this recording was made with the Grace 101 / AT4040 combonation.
