OK, i got my 1.2ghz (12 x 200mhz). i'm using my current pc100 ram.

my micropolis scsi drive (they went out of business long ago BTW) had been getting flaky, and now it's just toast. i initally thought the adaptec 390f adapter was the problem, but my ricoh scsi cd-rw still works.

anyway, here's my question:

my new ABIT KT7A-RAID motherboard has IDE ATA100 RAID support. Is anyone RAIDing their IDE drives? I've heard that you can get throughput rates equivalent to SCSI UW with the Fujitsu 7200rpm ATA100 drive, so RAIDing 2 of them should really make things hop along.

I'm hoping to be able to get 16 tracks with compression and eq on them, and 4 aux fx (a reverb, a chorus, and 2 delays) without ever breaching 80% utilization for the cpu or HDD.

Get yourself an AMD 760 chipset motherboard to go along with your fast processor and take advantage of the 266mhz system bus and double data rate memory. If you go ATA, which is fine, get like a 5 gig 7200rpm for your operating systems and stuff, and get a big 7200rpm for your audio files... 2 hard drives...
