pretty nice, surprised, very strat sounding especially the 2 combo positions on the switch.

Squires and Scribes
Sounds like a Strat....
I had a Squire Strat for about 15 years, fret job too expensive..so I splurged & bought a $800 US Strat (now 7 years) and as far as recording w/effects and EQ, I can't hear a difference at all. The dimensions are identical. Pickups are all subjective, as is sound. Why did I do it? It'd been 20yrs since my last US Strat, thought it might change my life....but it didn't.
guitars are so strange, as their all so different.
some are just great and some are just clunkers, nothing to do with how much they cost or the brand name. IMO.
I played a Honey $169 Affinity Tele that was frkn great and compared to $1300 teles some of them clunkers..same with a clunker $3500 LP, vs a Saga kit LP copy...
The Aquabats play a Squire. My son and his gang love 'em...SKA or Reggega whatever it gets 'em going... I admit I like the music too, the horns and Fender sounds...

I think for the money they're good, they're sooo reliable. My buddy ahs one, and its a cool guitar...but it does seem kinda weak compared to my Highway Tele. But for the money, you can't go wrong. In fact...I'm gonna start a poll about squiers.

well, i had one that was ok, but it had a little accident, run over by a car... so with only one bridge p/u and a cracked body, it's my knock around, it didn't have staggered poles on the p/u's but this one does, says Alinco, and is way more identifiable, i don't know how to describe those tones, but you know them when you hear them.
and i think the 2 combo positions are reversed polarity b/c the hum is cancelled out w/ them compared to the other 3 singles. that g string is funky, and loud
sunburst and fat headstock, never had one, reminds me of the 70's, it's fun
