Ok i'm using a Yahama psr 330 midi keyboard and i was wondering, how or if i can for that matter if i could use the instruments off the keyboard and import/midi the sounds directly into a midi slot in piano roll to come up with the melodys,if so how can i do that?

What exactly do you mean? You can have a PC sequencer playing your yammy... and you can record the sounds of your yammy onto an audio track but once they are there you can't do much else with it but alter the wave file.

I'm saying like lets say if i used a Grand Piano from my keyboard, and lets say if i wanted to use it in the piano roll in fl studio,i'm wondering do you record it first and then alter the sound of it in piano roll or do you do it another method.Sorry if i'm soudning confusing but i'm jus tryna figure this out cuz i'm tryna produce some music as i speak but i'm tryna find out info.

All you can alter from the piano roll is the note's start time, pitch, velocity and duration.

What aspect of the sound are you trying to change?

so you saying if i record a midi note from a instrument off my keyboard i would'nt be able to do nothing else with it?like such as move the the square bar around to change the pitch of the sound.or did you mean something else cuz i'm getting a bit confused.

sorry if I've confused you...

As I said above, all you can alter from the piano roll is the note's start time, pitch, velocity and duration. So yes... if you move the bar up or down you will change it's pitch.

Its ok,but how do i start to hook midi up towards my pc and keyboard, and what settings do i gotta put on fl studio

ah... I didn't realise that you hadn't even connected it to your PC yet

Do you have a MIDI interface? If not then you won't go far wrong with a Midisport 2X2. It comes with a USB cable which you connect to the USB port of your PC. You'll then need two MIDI cables... one going from the MIDI Out of your Yammy to the MIDI input of the Midisport and the other going from the MIDI Out of the Midisport to the MIDI in of the Yammy.

Can't really help you with Fruityloops cos I'm a Sonar owner. They are similar in someways but I've never even set eyes on this software cos I've been using Sonar/Cakewalk for years. The will be a settings page somewhere that allows you to select the MIDI devices that are available/installed on your PC. If you don't have any MIDI devices installed then you are goosed for now.

apart from getting the thing connnected (lets assume that's already been done) the question you seem to be asking is:

Can you use the keyboard sounds in FL, while using the keyboard as a midi controller? i would have to say no. only because using the keyboard as a midi controller is just that. it will only place the sound where you want it (start time, pitch, velocity and duration - as stated before) if you want the actual sounds from the keyboard to be used, you would have to record each sound individually and save them as a .wav file, and then put them in a FL folder to access it from FL directly... even then, when you go to use FL and those "new" sounds, assuming you are back to using your keyboard for a midi controller, they keyboard is now at the samples' mercy.

do you get it now?

here's an example - open up FL and load an FPC drum pad, or FL Keys or whatever you want. then, without even having to hit play, or record or anything... just start hitting keys on your computer's keyboard (the one you use to type). if you notice, you will start to play notes (or drum hits if that's the case) with your typing keyboard. a.k.a. it is acting as the midi controller. now - your musical keyboard is doing the same thing. no "sounds" are coming from it, just the notes.

i'm over-explaining now i think, :p , i'm done.

bless.
