I just had a read of the monitor poll on this section. I don't really know where this question goes but anyway. I'll preface it with the info I just found. Yorkville studio monitors YSM1p are worth $300USD/unit. I went to the Yorkville site and found the Australian distributor. $1795AUD  (I assume, hope, pray that that's for a pair). This means (by my calculations) that for about $950-$1000AUD, 2 YSM1p speakers could be bought, brought, taxed & sitting infront of me in a matter of a week or 2. Not sure if they are powered, or if it matters (being this ignorant on this subject has to end :( ) but here's the question.

Is it as easy as getting a voltage reducer and then buying everything from the states or is there a catch? I know that Australian power out the wall is 240V and there is 50-60Hz with that. I read somewhere that nearly every electronic device converts AC power (power out the wall) to DC power to use it and there aren't any hertz with DC power (or vice versa). I mean I'm happy to support local business but I don't want to put some shop owners kids through uni all by myself and this ridiculous price difference seems to be right accross the board . What are studio builders outside the states and using other than 110V doing when getting their gear together?
