Hey well im building a PC

msi nforce 3 mother board
1 gb DDr400 ram
AMD 63 3200+

I dont know what sound card i should go with.. I need something that not expensive prefferably around 300-600 dollars that can record a band seperatly. I need something that can record a drum set as well with drum mics..

I was thinking of the FA-101 but it only has 2 mic inputs and thats no good for the drums :-

Thanks

-Greg

Are you going to need mic preamps also built into the sound card or do you have a mixer?

i dont have a mixer.,.. so i will need mic preamps...

Yamaha MG12/4 mixer - 6 preamps for $196
M Audio Delta1010LT soundcard - 2 more preamps, + 8 inputs, 8 outputs for $220.
This setup will let you record your whole band at once to 8 tracks if you need to

That´s the setup I´m looking for. Got the soundcard but I´m saving for the mixer.

I would recommend a 16 channel mixer with 16 pres and 2 Terretec PHASE 88s. Just my opinion! I think with having the 16 channel board you will have a much easier time with track monitoring and signal routing. Not to mention, with drums... don't know about you but I have 10 mics on my kit! So for my whole band I use 14 tracks at once:

1 - vocals
2 - back vocals
3 - guitar
4 - bass guitar
5 - kick1
6 - kick2
7 - OH left
8 - OH right
9 - snare top
10 - snare bottom
11 - tom1
12 - tom2
13 - tom3
14 - tom4

i got it

Hey man, I just finished recording my band's album with a delta 1010 soundcard and yamaha mg16 mixer. It worked GREAT, and really good quality too. We decided to sell them now though to get money for live stuff (ear monitors, etc.). If you're interested PM me or email me at ryan@oftheson.com

i agree with bulls recommendation.
also search under my name for lots of past tips/info.

for me i use 7 tracks at once..

Plug a couple of mics into the first 2 inputs (xlr) of the soundcard.

Plug the other 5 mics into the mixer, and output via either the channel inserts or the buses into inputs 3 - 7 of the soundcard.

Arm 7 tracks to record in your s/w, and assign an input to each one.

Press record.

Play drums
