hey, what do you guys think is the best snare head for my situation. i have a tama maple 6x13. when i first got it it came with a tama head that i put on and i really liked the way it sounded. had a nice ring to it (its hard to get a good ring, i think). then i put on a remo powerstroke3 and there is no ring at all. is that head too thick? what do you guys think makes the best snare head?

thanks>>>mike

If you want a "ringing" sound, go for an Ambassador or maybe even a Diplomat.

The sound you're after is a thin head, and go for a clear head if you're after an even brighter sound-and you can use an ebony head if you want a sound brighter than a coated, but not as bright as a clear.

I haven't used any of the "newer" Evans heads (G1/G2 types), but you may like those as well.

The PS3 is designed to eliminate the ring that you are looking for.

I'll tell you what is a KILLER thin head sound-I used to use Evans Oilheads, and My snare head broke-so I put an oilhead on it-and I broke the top layer.
I peeled that off, so it was only the bottom layer-and that kicked major ass actually, talking about a "cutting" snare sound!
But the head didn't last long, because it was so thin.
