Good Recording Headphones ?

Iwannamix,

You know recently I tried out some of the AKG K44 - MKII headphones at the local Guitar Center. You know they were only 29.99 with the Black Friday deal. If I had some extra cash that day I would have picked them up. They were not terrible but they definitely were not horrible; in fact they were pretty nifty. Pretty decent bass response out of the package and somewhat clear high end. They are not knockdown top notch mixing headphones but they are decent enough for any home/bedroom production setup.

Eh, take it for what it is worth. If I could afford some Sony MDR-7506 those would be the ones I'd go with.

Tom,

Do you think the AKG K44 would be good for tracking vocals also? Are they isolating good? I currently have Sennheiser HD201, but they bleed to the mic. Are the AKG K44 isolating better?

Spiritfly,

I actually own 2 pairs of the HD201s. They were on sale for like 15 bucks last year at the local music shop. I got two pairs for guests and what not that visit my little home setup. Truthfully, I wish I hadn't spent the money on them. I have the same opinion on the bleed and overall quality.

On the AKG 44s I can say that I was pleased with the bass response and overall clarity. Plus the sound just sounds more like actual sound. They are form fitting around your ears and seem to actually "cup" and seal better. I would say they probably "bleed" less however they might leak a bit a higher volume. I'll say this, if you are running them though a quality headphone out on a board or a headphone amplifier I would say they could possibly make the cut with a good signal with low bleeding. I haven't tested them in that environment though.

Hope this helps some bud.
-Tom
