Good price/performance bass heads?

For the most part Avatar has a pretty good reputation and is generally accepted as a good buy for cabinets - good performance, great price. I'm considering buying a bigger bass amp and am wondering what a comparable buy in a bass head, or even straight power amp, would be.

As far as "requirements" go ... good price/performance of course, reliable, solid state is probably better for my purposes, and having a direct out is a plus.

The music we play is probably closest to progressive rock, but it also has elements of classic rock, blues, and occassionally even some jazz and folk mixed in. I already have a GK MB-150 that I love, but my friend that I'm writing/recording with plays his guitar through a Fender Dual Showman and my amp just can't keep up. I play a MIM Jazz Deluxe 5 string and I have an ART Tube MP and a SABDDI I bought for recording. Since the ART/SABDDI combination gives me a wide variety of tones I'm thinking I can run the bass through them to get the tone I want and then go with a more transparent/modern sounding amp. I don't have a cabinet yet but when the time comes I'd seriously consider an Avatar based on what I've read here and in other forums.

I have a SWR Workingmans 4004. It's solid state, 400 watts @ 4 ohms, has a direct XLR out, and is for sale. :D It's a nice amp. I went to a SWR 750 I bought used and kept the 4004 as a back up until I decided the 750 was stable. The 4004 is plenty loud and has never given me a single problem. I would love to keep it but I would also like to get some decent monitors. ;)
I live one state below you, PM me if interested.
