you could also try taking ajunk front head cutting a hole in it, almost cutting the whole head. leave about 2 inches around the sides. tune the batter head really loose, right before it wrinkles. lay a pillow down just touching the batter head, the put a concrete block ontop of the pillow. put the mic in 6-8 inches off the batter head off axis pointing at the beater. then cover the front of the bass drum with a moving blanket or a couple heavy blancket. i have had very good luck doing this, hope it helps.
