Good idea for VF80 to sit at an angle?

This may be a stupid question, but here goes anyway!

Is it a bad idea to mount a VF80 on an angle so that it's easier to see the display? I'm thinking of building a shelf at a 30 degree angle or thereabouts.

Will it be bad for the hard drive to operate like this for long periods of time? There was nothing in the manual I could find on this...

i had the same problem with my mr8, couldnt see the display very well, i have mine on and angle with no problems, although they are very different in nature. Think of it as a computer, some towers have the drive at a 90 degree angle to some other older models that were more horizontal....

id recomend a qualified answer from fostex, but i would think its going to be just fine.....
 
Thanks Dave - I talked to my network computer guys at work and they seemed to think that it would be fine, as long as the unit wasn't being moved or bumped (which it won't of course). Also, computers don't come with a warning saying "only operate while laying flat or at 90 degrees" or anything. You would think that if there was even a chance of a problem, the companies would be doing a CYA move with a disclaimer.

Hi, I seem to recall calling Fostex about this very thing on the VF80, and they said, no problems. I think stability is key no matter what the angle is. Here's a tip: I saw a solid pine drafting table that had an adjusting tilting top. Looked great. But again, a wobbly stand would not be good.
 
When I was shopping and trying to decide between a mixer or outboard dedicated mic pre-amps, I downloaded a lot of owner's manuals. I thought it was interesting that Yamaha was the only manufacturer who offered an optional mounting bracket with the idea that the user, by installing the bracket on the mixer, could then mount the mixer on a mic stand and fix the mixer at his/her ideal working height.
Now that would be the solution--if Fostex would manufacture such brackets for the VF80 and VF160.
Of course then one would also need comparable brackets for mixer, outboard mic pres, FX to keep the cables in the signal chain as short as possible.
 
Hey! I'm doing the same thing right now. Jeesh, I wish the vf80 had a tilt screen.

I'm building a small, angled platform with a rubber covering and a lip at the low/front end to keep the unit in place. I haven't finished, but I think it'll work and keep me from straining my neck!

With my bi-focal assisted eyesight, I just wish the thing had either a larger screen or a port to connect a monitor.
