Good Editing software

Just wanted some opinions/advice. I've been using a Goldwave editor that I downloaded free from an article here at Homerecording.com. So far, works fine for me. Mind you, I only use this for stereo mixdown, and I really only use the basics: eq, a little compression here and there, loudness maximizer. Just wondering if theres something that would better suit my needs or sound better.

Also there is Cool Edit Pro. It has multitrack too.

True. Cool Edit 2 is supposed to be pretty decent, but the old version was kind of a toy. Ever tried the "brainwave synchronizer" :D I'm sure I could've gotten some use out of that. I think a "brain cell rejuvinator" would be even better. ...guess I'll have to wait for version 3 :D

I tried downloading the demo for sound forge once, but it wouldn't install for some reason. I'll probably just try again.
