I want to connect the main outs (XLR balanced) of a Mackie 1402-VLZ pro to the inputs of a Rane AC-22B (XLR balanced) then run the outs of the Rane to the inputs of (2) QSC 2450's (XLR balanced). I'm gonna rack mount these, so I'd like to use (6) 3 foot cables to do this. I have (2) questions. First, can I use 3' lo-z mic cables to do this? (all of the "high end " mic cables are 10' long minimum). Second, does anyone know of a company that offers quality 3' long cables that will allow me to make these connections?

I've been pretty happy with these guys--> Markertek
You can either get bulk cable and solder your own connectors or have them do it ... pretty much any configuration you want. Get a free catalog from their site before you order ... their search engine is a little hard to use unless you pretty much know exactly what you're looking for.
When I bought, the standard cable was Canare (i think they used star quad but don't quote me) w Neutrik connectors ... you could probably upgrade to canare connectors too, but that would be custom.
I started with about 8 cables (in varying lengths and configs) and have been pretty happy. I'm going to completely rewire my patch bay soon, and I think I'm going to use these guys again.

Only my opinion, but I hope it helps.

Can you guys tell me...is there any time where you would not want to use balanced cables? And also, why? I'm talking about all the connections: mixer to amp, soundcard/breakout box to mixer, etc. Thanks.
