Ive been using my AT2020 for awhile now and im finally in a situation where i can upgrade a little. I was wondering if anybody knew of a good budget vocal mic for around $150 to $200. Ive been looking into the AT2035 but seen people say that its not a good vocal mic. I record hip hop so i dont use instruments. Any Suggestions?

I used the AT2035 on vocals for a rock project and it wasn't horrible, but could probably be better. I'm a really big fan of the Rode NT1a. It's a little higher than your stated budget but I think its well worth it. The last price I recall seeing it was $235 and that came with a shock mount, dvd and maybe even a cable and pop filter. Back in my studio days we used it quite a bit for hip-hop as well as folk vocals and acoustic guitars. It's a solid condenser that by sound alone would lump it with mics in the $500 range.

There's plenty out there to choose from though and with mics (and a lot of gear in general) its personal taste.
