Just another guy, really.
I have noticed at least some dairies and/or food distributors have switched from the plastic, mesh-sided milk crates to cardboard. I am thinking the cardboard boxes may actually be better than the plastic ones. Here's some points:

Cardboard- advantages:
Easy to get- you don't have to steal them.
Plentiful.
Thus, no chance of going to jail, or getting hassled.
Cable ends and smaller parts don't fall through the holes.
Disposable, or re-usable.
Easily marked/labeled with Sharpie/Magic Marker, china marker or even ball-point pen.
Handy size.
Can be used to start a fire.

Cardboard- disadvantages:
Don't stack real well.
Not real durable.
Flammable- can be used to start a fire.

Plastic- advantages:
Stack easily.
Durable.
Fairly easy to find.

Plastic- disadvantages:
Having even one constitutes possession of stolen goods (but don't take my word for it- ask guitarguy101- after all, he's passed the bar before he graduated from high school... )
No lid. No way to make one except maybe cut the bottom off another such crate.

I'm going with the cardboard, currently. Anybody else found these?
