Me and my bandmembers want to seriously record our music using a computer, but we absolutely don't know what we need. I've read about Echo cards and n-track and much more but what do i need for this:

(I hope you can follow this all)

-we want to record everysound on a separate track. Now that shouldn't be hard I think. The only problem we see is recording the drums. (i'm the drummer) We want to use about six mics to record the drums, so we can change as much possible when mixing down the songs. We were planning to buy a mixer (say 8 or 10 tracks) and use a line out (aux I think) from every single track to a "line in" in the computer. Now I know we then need a card with about 8x line in!
Is there some device that we can buy into which we plug in the mics(instead of a mixer) or in which we plug in the "line out"'s that come from the tracks on the mixer we use, and then has one cable that goes in the soundcard? So the computer can separate the data again into the amount of tracks we used?

Other suggestions are welcome off course. We just want to have a lot off control on what we record

No, you need a soundcard with 8 ins. And you need preamps to amplify from mic signals level to line signal level, but if you need 8 ins you need to get a high-end soundcard anyway, and many of thise have decent preamps built in.

thanks for your reply,

I checked out your site and came upon another site with the 8channel preamp.
When we buy something like that we'll have to buy a card with 8 line ins right? But if we buy a card like that it'll probably have a preamp with it. Is that what you mean? Like the Darla or Gina24 from EchoAudio where you get a separate box with the card?
Do you know (other) manufacturers of high end cards?
