I am currently running pro tools le 6.7 with a digi002r firewire interface with a dell dimension 2400 with a 2.57 gig P4 and 1 gig of RAM which as far as i know is the limit of ram that i can use on this computer.

the problem is when im running a good amount of plugins the error message comes up that the CPU is getting bogged down. this is getting very annoying.

i just need the tower. is there a way i can reuse the memory i have now? (if not its no big deal.)

i was thinking about going to compusa...any other suggestions? my price range is up to a thousand i guess but ofcourse it would be nice if i can stay way below that.

is there anything special i should look for in a computer when its a dedicated music computer? i do use it for some websurfing when emailing files and stuff to the computer.

thanks

AMD X2 and Pentium dual core is what you should look out for. Something like this Maybe wana move everything from this into the case you have now, lol, that one looks shite. But It comes with a few nice things. I'm quite sure you could use your 1Gb RAM and hard drive with this.

do they have similar systems at compusa?

Retail computers are a rip off. Only good thing about retail pc's is the ability to return it the same day. Trust me. I built my own computers since the p3 500. I also worked for Office Depot for 3 yrs selling pc's.

The best deal would be that ebay one.

thanks for the replies so far.

Ive been out of the computer shopping game for a while. Is that AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+* (2.2GHz) a step up from the P4 2.54 ghz I have now?

certainly! It's really 2 processors in one. That one out-performs the pentium 4 dual core 830 which is 3.0GHz, on most applications, even though the pentium D is basically 2 3GHZ processors

HUGE STEP!!!

The future is dual-core. The next windows will support it. Sonar is planning to support it. When Dual core is properly takin advantage of, you can gain up to 65% more performance vs a single core processor.

Trust me Im a heavy pc gamer and I read about pc tech everyday. ;)

so...will my PT LE 6.7 support it? if i get the system in the ebay ad what windows OS should i get?

thanks again.

dual core surpassed 64 bit for some reason. anyway if the memory you already have is pc 3200 (400MHZ) then thats good. hopefully they're 512 sticks and not 256 that way you can add more other wise you will have maxed out your memory slots.
