Going Back!!!!!!

From the age of 16 till about 5 years ago(14 yrs.), I recorded hundreds of hours on a cassette 4 track. With all my digital gear, my old portastudio, has gone to the attic. About twice a year, I get em down and listen to probably less that 10% of em. Pretty much of a shame that all of these forgotten gems are gonna disappear.

How many of you still have their 4 tracks out so you can GO BACK? Have you archived the good stuff to digital?

If you answer no to both of the questions, do yourself a favor and GO BACK and listen to those old gems.

I actually archived all my old stuff to digital last year. It was a blast, as most of it hadn't been listened to in 15 years. For some reason, I remember it sounding better 15 years ago. (I think my ears have gegraded over the years.) I now wish I still had it as 4 seperate tracks, instead of mixed down to stereo. Maybe I could have cleaned them up a bit. I was actually surprised at how my playing sounds now, verses then.

Sadly, I think my writing was better back then.....guess that our sense of embarrasment over cheeze at a wiser old age actually stiffles my creativity.

So funny the crappy ways I would acheive effects too. I had no problem running my vox through some weird stomp box to get sounds. Kinda sounds like ween! LOL

Sucks doesn't it. I'm constantly second guessing myself, although my stuff IS getting less cheesier, I think?

I think the only "effects" I had back then was the tape deck was real cheap, and recorded very worbly. That probably made my stuff sound twice as good, which is still REALLY, REALLY bad.

Fun to do, but almost painful to listen to now. I may try to redo some of the stuff, but most I will try to hide.
