Goddamn MF'n HISS!!

Between being and nothing
So, I had to dismantle my recording setup to bring my mixer (a Behringer MX802A) to a gig I did with some friends. I reset it back up, I plug in my mic (an Oktava MX 319), and I get ALL THIS HISS!!! I figured it's the main mix knob so I turn it down, and bring up the gain and level, but I'm still getting HISS (though not as bad).

What can I do to COMPLETELY eliminate it without having to record it to a wave and gating the hell out of the thing?

you may have already checked this, but is yuor phantom power on? as I recall,that mic is a ribbon? may not take kindly to phantom power.

A 319 is a large diaphram condensor and needs the phantom power. Try a dynamic (with the power off) and see if it's still noisey. That'll let you know if it's the mic or the mixer. If you have a noise from either it's off to the repair shop.
 
Well, I had this problem with my dynamic mic too, soo

I HATE taking stuff to the shop!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
My 2 (cents) options

1. Do a gig with the house P.A.

2. Do acoustic gigs only - like 5th and Powell or the wharf.
 
Actually

I was able to fix the thing.

I had reset my system AFTER I got home from the gig, and that's when I had problem with the hiss.

I fixed it by maxing the gain and channel levels and lowering the main mixer level so that the vocals come out, but the his is hardly audible.

I also got a new computer, and upgraded some software, which helps as well
