yeah I'm lame I know...

so, after months of cutting, sanding, gluing, more gluing, more sanding, hair pulling, I have finally built these things. well, almost done...going to finish up tonight and then I have a band coming in tomorrow and I am really excited to try them out. if they work you all get mad props....if they suck then I am going to personally hunt down and give you each a swift kick in the ass. but I think they'll work.

so my question is, how do I use these things???

I am going to have a drummer in one room and an amp in another room, on a long balanced cable run. I will have 4 4x4 gobos and 4 2x4 absorbers on mic stands.

so..where do I start?? with for instance a guitar amp. I assume the absorbers go behind the amp to eliminate wall reflection? or do I just randomly place them around the amp in all directions to see what sounds best? is it the more the better? just looking for general guidelines for use so that I don't come back here all dissapointed that they didn't "work" becuase I didn't know how to use them.

So your goal is to record the amp and the drums?

If thats the case then you first decide where the mics are going to be placed in relation to the source. Then you look around for walls and reflections and then use the gobos to break up all the places that sound could reflect back into the mic. Normally the closest walls to the mic are going to be to worst of the probs.

What I would do just so you can have an idea of what they are going to do for your sound is, get everything setup to record and then lay down a few tracks.

THEN add all the gobos and treatments.

Then compare.
