GM Midi emulation

new to this forum.

I've just bought a new recording card , Maya 44 which does not have a built in midi synth. Am planning to buy a midi card and hardware synth, but until then...

- is it possible to generate GM midi using some kind of software emulator?

Yes it is possible. They are generically termed softsynths. Most work as plug-ins to recording software. The two main plug-in architectures are VST and DX -- which you would use depends on your host software (some handle both types).
