Global Velocity change on Cakewalk midi notes?

I program my drums in Cakewalk (Version 9.0), I've only been doing it for a while so I'm still working on proper balance between the various drums/cymbals/bass components.

Is there a way to select the drum track and change the velocity of all the notes of a certain kind - like snare or bass - with one click or something?

Right now I have to view the track in (I think) piano roll, then change every single entry for the snare. This takes forever and I'm looking for a faster way to do it.

I will be more concerned with dynamics later, but for now I'm just looking to turn the instrument down for that whole track.

Click on the piano key in PRV that corresponds to the drum whose velocity you want to change. This step should highlight all the notes for that drum (e.g., snare).

Then go to Process > Midi Effects > Cakewalk > Velocity. Then have at it!! :)

Thanks dachay2tnr !
- I couldn't highlight the row of bass drum notes by clicking on the piano key BUT I did figure it out:
1) Right click on the row of notes you want to change - anywhere in the row, not on the piano key area but on the row of actual notes to the right of that piano key
2) From the drop down menu that appears, select Midi FX, then Cakewalk FX, then Velocity
3) The velocity window appears
4) Click on the button (to select) "Set all velocities to"
5) Set the velocity to the number you want
6) Click on the Audition Button to preview the results of your change
7) repeat steps 5 and 6 until you like the velocity then press the OK button to save the change.

I wonder why I couldn't highlight the notes. Highlighting specific range could be handy for changing dynamics of certain bars but at least I was able to change the overall velocity which was my goal at this time.

Many Thanks for your help!

Not sure why you weren't able to select a row of notes using the piano keys; however here is another tip:

You can select midi notes in PRV using the selection tool (the arrow). Click and drag the arrow so that you draw a box around the notes you want to effect. Then go to Midi FX > Cakewalk > Velocity and proceed as before.

This is obviously not as handy for selecting one single note over an entire song (although it will do it), but it is quite handy if you just want to work on a section of a song. Say you want to raise the velocity for all the notes in the chorus for example. And you can effect multiple drums at the same time, since you can draw the box to include multiple notes.

Obviously this will also work for other FX and not only velocity changes. For example, if you want to transpose a string of notes, etc. In other words, this is how you "select" the notes you want affected. Once they are selected you can with them as you wish.

Couldn't highlight notes

dachay2tnr - I couldn't highlight the notes using the arrow tool either. I could draw the box around them but they never highlighted - although maybe they were highlighted but they never changed color. Sounds like a bug in my version....oh well, for short sections I'll just do it note by note.....Thanks again!

Something odd going on. When you left click on an individual note, does it highlight?
